FOUNDING PARTNER
JOE ROOT
Joe Root is an avid sportsman and craftsman with an affinity for conservation. He is a respected industry leader with decades of experience envisioning and cultivating resort destinations that raise the bar for luxury experiences. His professional career spans time at Kohanaiki, Auberge Resorts and Farallon Capital, Mauna Kea Beach Resort, and Waikoloa Beach Resort.
At Kohanaiki, Joe led the creation of this luxury development on the Kona Coast and oversaw the initial vision through project design, construction, development, and the sales launch. His meticulous work helped win two prestigious Robb Report “Best of the Best” awards and attracted buyers at an unprecedented pace. Two critical cornerstones to the development were the respectful attention to the culture and history and the care for environmental habitat preservation.
Prior to that, Joe spent seven years alongside Auberge Resorts and Farallon Capital overseeing the creation of CordeValle with a new Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course, a clubhouse, 45 villa guestrooms and infrastructure. Joe managed the entitlement compliance efforts related to the project, and championed the protection of waterways, conservation areas, and local endangered species. He also served as the General Manager and assembled a best-in-class team to sustain the development.
Joe also worked with Mauna Kea Beach Resort for six years where he participated in the renovation of the hotel and Robert T. Jones, Sr. course, the startup of the adjacent Hapuna Beach Hotel and Arnold Palmer golf course, and managed and marketed both golf facilities.
Groomed in the hospitality industry during his 11 years with Waikoloa Beach Resort, Joe worked with industry leaders including Thos Rohr and Pat Cowell. During this time, Waikoloa Land Company developed the largest hotel in Hawai‘i, a Weiskopf-Moorish golf course and clubhouse, renovated the RTJ, Jr. Beach course and clubhouse. Joe managed the two courses and marketed the resort and real estate with the two hotels and condominium properties.
