In Hawai‘i, living by mālama ka ‘āina—to care for the land—is more than a principle, it’s a way of life. It’s rooted in the belief that nurturing the land ensures its reciprocal care for us. The ‘Āina (land) provides sustenance, shelter, and solace. Beyond sustainability, this practice also nurtures our well-being and our future. At ‘Ōuli Farms, we invite you to discover this profound connection firsthand, where the ‘Āina not only provides but also heals, rejuvenating spirit and community alike.

A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

LETTING NATURE TAKE THE LEAD

  1. Natural seasonal stream patterns and stream water will be captured and used to supplement ground water for farm and golf irrigation.
  2. Green energy initiatives will include use of solar power, and green waste will be converted to mulch for farm areas.
  3. Homes will be required to conserve water. A new non-potable water well will be used for crop irrigation.

CULTIVATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF FARMERS

  1. ‘Ōuli Farms will dedicate space for home orchards, community gardens, farm plots, green houses, and the propagation of native hardwoods.
  2. Food produced on ‘Ōuli Farms will be supplied to the farm restaurant, shared with residents, the surrounding community and throughout Hawai‘i island.
  3. Farmers who are passionate about food sustainability at ‘Ōuli Farms will have the opportunity to cultivate their own half-acre farm plot for personal use.

IMPROVING SAFETY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

  1. Traffic and safety are of the highest priority for ‘Ōuli Farms which is committed to ensuring as little disruption to the neighborhood as possible.
  2. Construction vehicles will use Kawaihae Road entry, and residents will be able to access ‘Ōuli Farms from Kawaihae Road and Amaui Drive.
  3. Establishing a fire safety protocol is also a high priority for the property. Reservoirs will be available for irrigation and fire protection in addition to other safety measures such as an onsite fire truck with a boom, and first responders.
  4. ‘Ōuli Farms will invest in a potable well system, sewage treatment, utilities, and the necessary infrastructure to protect the community‘s resources.
